Associated Students, Inc. (A.S.I.) is governed by the A.S.I. Board of Directors. The A.S.I. Board of Directors and professional staff manage the day-to-day operations of the corporation providing Cal State L.A. students, faculty, and staff dynamic programs and services. The purpose and function of the Board of Directors is to:

   1. Act as a governing Board for the Associated Students, Inc.
   2. Act as a steward to the student funds
   3. Act as a learning laboratory for student leadership

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Associated Students, Inc. shall be to promote the establishment of, and provide the means for, effective avenues of student input into the governance of the campus; provide an official voice through which student opinion may be expressed; provide an opportunity where students may gain experience and training in responsible political participation and community leadership; assist in the protection of the rights and interests of individual students; and to stimulate the educational, social, physical and cultural well being of the university community.

With the support of the professional staff the A.S.I. Board of Directors updates and sets appropriate governing policies for the Associated Students Inc., approving funding allocations for programs, services, and advocating for student interests on various campus wide committees.

The A.S.I. Board of Directors is comprised of four executive members, two representatives from each academic college, and four representatives at large that focus on specific areas such as community, campus, and legislative affairs. They meet every other Thursday at 3:15 pm (see the 2008-09 Calendar of Meetings for specific dates and locations).

There are four Executive Officer positions in A.S.I.: President, Vice President for Administration, Vice President for Academic Governance and Vice President for Finance.

Judicial Review Committee

The Chief Justice and Associate Justices compose the Judicial Review Committee. The purpose of the Judicial Review Committee (JRC) is to review, upon appeal, decisions of the Board of Directors involving interpretations of the Articles of Incorporation, the Bylaws and the Code of Procedures.

Cabinet of Commissioners

The Cabinet of Commissioners (COC) consists of a Spirit, Environmental Affairs, PR/Elections, Housing, and Advocacy & Outreach Commissioners. The Cabinet of Commissioners coordinates, plans and is responsible for the activities of the administrative units of the Associated Students, Inc. In addition the COC provides both a number of social and educational programming for the Cal State L.A. community.

Cabinet of Academic Senators

Cabinet of Senators shall coordinate, plan, and be responsible for the actions of the academic governance units of A.S.I. The Cabinet of Academic Senators (CAS) meets with the University Academic Senate (governed by faculty) to actively engage in the process of shared governance of the university.

A.S.I. Open Positions / Applications

A.S.I. is a student run auxiliary corporation that influences and makes important decisions on campus. Apply for an open position on the Board of Directors, the Cabinet of Commissioners, The Cabinet of Academic Senators or on the JRC. Appointments for available positions occur at each Board of Directors meeting.
